# Collecting a Parcel in English: Ask for a Trolley

_The Unscript team · October 28, 2026_

A delivery card sends you to the counter to collect a parcel. These four lines help you explain what you brought, ask about the box, borrow a trolley and thank the person helping you.

### From the collection card to the heavy box

> **You:** Yes, and I brought my passport.

The staff member asks whether you have the card they left. **Yes** answers that question; the rest adds that you brought your passport. This describes the conversation, rather than a universal identification rule: check your own collection notice for the documents required.

> **You:** Is it a large box or a small one?

Ask this before you see the parcel. **One** stands for **box**, so you do not need to repeat the noun. The reply says the box is quite large and rather heavy, giving you a reason to ask for help moving it.

> **You:** Could I borrow a trolley?

**Could I borrow…?** politely asks to use something temporarily and return it afterward. Here, **trolley** means a small wheeled cart for the parcel; this use is common in British English. The staff member says there is one by the door.

> **You:** Thank you, that will help a lot.

Thank the person after learning where the trolley is. **That will help a lot** says their help will make moving the box easier; it does not say you have already moved it.

### Now say it yourself

Cover the English and say these ideas aloud: you have the card and brought your passport / ask whether the box is large or small / borrow a trolley / thank the person and say it will help. If you get stuck, look at the original and repeat the whole line.

This conversation is free in Unscript. Move from reading the lines to saying them without a script: [practice collecting a parcel](/scenes/post-collect/).
