# Arriving Early at a Hotel: Leaving Your Bags Before Check-In

_The Unscript team · October 3, 2026_

You arrive before check-in, and your room is not ready. These three lines help you ask to leave your bags, check when the room should be ready, and give the front desk your phone number.

### What to say when you arrive early

> **You:** Could I leave my bags here until then?

The receptionist has just said check-in starts at three. **Then** refers to that time, and **until then** means leaving your bags there up to that point. **Could I** politely asks permission.

> **You:** Will my room be ready by three exactly?

**Be ready** means the room is ready for you to use. **By three** asks whether it will be ready no later than three; it can be ready earlier. **Exactly** emphasizes the specific time you want to confirm.

The receptionist replies, **It should be. We can text you when it is.** Here, **should** expresses an expectation, not a guarantee. The offer is to send you a text when the room is ready.

> **You:** That would be helpful. Here's my number.

Use the first sentence to accept the offer appreciatively. **Here's my number** naturally introduces your phone number as you say it or hand it over.

### Now say it yourself

Cover the English and say these three ideas aloud: ask to leave your bags until check-in / ask whether your room will be ready by three / accept the text message offer and give your number.
